Further Trust partnerships will deliver wider range of specialist surgeries
A leading independent healthcare and wellbeing provider is expanding its role in supporting the NHS as it tackles post-Covid waiting lists, partnering with 14 trusts across the North West and the Midlands.
Transform Hospital Group (THG) – which pivoted its operations at the start of the pandemic to help ease pressure on the health service – has broadened its NHS agreements to help clear surgical backlogs across a range of specialist areas.
Working with 10 trusts in the North West, and four in the Midlands, NHS patients will be treated at two of THG’s hospitals – The Pines hospital in Wythenshawe and Burcot Hall hospital in Bromsgrove.
By the end of the second quarter of 2022, at least 1,330 surgeries will have been carried out on NHS patients, in areas including bariatric, endoscopy, ENT (ear, nose and throat), general surgery, gynaecology, orthopaedic, urology, vascular, plastics, and breast affirmation for patients undergoing gender reassignment.
The new agreements come following the positive impact THG’s assistance provided during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, when both hospitals opened their doors to thousands of patients who would otherwise have had to wait for treatment.
The initial partnerships struck in 2020 saw around 3,500 patients treated, undergoing procedures including cancer-related breast reconstruction, dermatology surgeries, and breast affirmation.
Transform Hospital Group has long championed a wider move within healthcare to provide integrated, localised services utilising public-independent partnerships to ease pressure on the NHS and ensure patients trapped on backlogged waiting lists undergo important surgeries.
The new agreements signal a step-change in the provider’s longer term strategy as is pivots from specialising in bariatric and cosmetic surgery and medical aesthetics, to become a broader-based health and wellbeing provider – working with the NHS and other third-party providers on a range of extended specialisms.
Christine Mozzamdar, Clinical Service Director at Transform Hospital Group, said: “Repurposing our facilities at The Pines and Burcot Hall almost immediately in order to assist the NHS at the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic allowed us to fully see the benefits of public-private partnership in action.
“Not only does it allow us to expand the range of specialisms available within our hospitals, it also means the time patients spend awaiting procedures that are vitally important can be dramatically reduced.
“We’re delighted to be working with 14 NHS trusts across the North West and the Midlands after proving the real worth of these partnerships during one of the most challenging periods in the history of the health service. Together, we are ensuring patients are put first and receive care from experienced surgeons and clinicians in excellent facilities.”
Transform Hospital Group has partnered with the following NHS Trusts in the North West: Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust; Bolton NHS Foundation Trust; Norther Care Alliance NHS Group (across Fairfield General Hospital, Rochdale Infirmary, Royal Oldham Hospital and Salford Royal); Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust; Stockport NHS Foundation Trust; Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust; and Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (Trafford General Hospital).
In the Midlands, the provider has reached agreements with: University Hospital Birmingham; University Hospitals North Midlands, Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership Trusts; Birmingham and Solihull.
