A new street mural by an acclaimed Glasgow graffiti artist has been unveiled at a city centre housing development.
Danny McDermott, also known as EJEK, has created a bespoke mural to adorn the hoardings around CALA Homes (West)’s Prince’s Quay development located at Pacific Quay. The artwork has been installed to mark the homebuilder’s first ever Glasgow city centre development.
Danny has been a graffiti artist for more than 20 years and has worked on several high-profile projects, including a series of murals at Strathclyde University to celebrate the Commonwealth Games, and a memorial to Stan Lee in the Gorbals area of Glasgow.
Liana Canavan, sales and marketing director for CALA Homes (West), said: “This is a really exciting project for us to be involved in. We’re delighted to be working with such a well-known Glasgow artist and Danny has done an incredible job of bringing the story of the development to life.
“Prince’s Quay is a completely new type of development for us in the West of Scotland, so we wanted to do something fresh and exciting. We want to showcase the best of contemporary Glasgow living, and I think this artwork really exemplifies the dynamic and exciting character of the city.”
Danny McDermott said: “This has been a great project to work on. The mural incorporates lots of elements of nature and the outdoors, which ties in perfectly with the fact that this development sits on the former site of the Garden Festival. There’s also a theme of regeneration and taking something old and derelict and turning it into something new and exciting, which is exactly what CALA is setting out to do here.”
Located in the hub of media city, CALA’s Prince’s Quay development will see a total of 203 homes built on the former site of Glasgow’s Garden Festival at Pacific Quay, including a mix of apartments and townhouses.
The development benefits from excellent bus, rail and subway links, as well as the extension of the existing footpath and cycle path to the North of the development to allow travel through the site and into nearby Festival Park.
The show village includes a one-bedroom apartment, a two-bedroom apartment, and a three-bedroom townhouse. Viewings are by appointment only.
